FORMAZIONE ITALIANI NEL MONDO - SPAGNA - BORSE INTERNAZIONALI FONDAZIONE BOTIN PER L'OTTAVA EDIZIONE CORSO DI VISUAL ARTS SCADENZA 4 MAGGIO - TESTO IN LINGUA INGLESE

(2018-04-19)

Fundación Botín is launching another edition of its International Visual Arts Scholarships. In fact, this is the 26 th year of the programme conceived to promote research and specialised training in the arts, with the deadline for applications running until 4 May.

The mandate of the Fundación Botín Visual Arts Scholarships is to fund the training and development of personal research projects in the field of artistic creation (excluding theoretical projects). The eight available scholarships are aimed at artists from any nationality, although priority will be given in two of them to Spanish artists under the age of 30 with the goal of enabling them to travel abroad to continue their work, studies or residency.

Each one of the scholarships, with an initial duration of nine months, comes with economic funding to the tune of 23,000 euros plus travel and accident insurance should the artists need to travel to a country other than the country of the residency.

Since it was set up in 1994, 192 artists have been the recipients of these scholarships which have proven an invaluable aid in assisting the careers of emerging artists with direct support for the development of an artistic research project.

The programme is brought to a conclusion with the exhibition Itinerarios, in which the artists show the works they have made during the residency period. The exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue to ensure greater visibility for the artists and their projects. This coming 13 March, the exhibition Itinerarios XXIV opens to the public at Centro Botín, showcasing the work carried out by the scholarship holders in the 2016- 2017 call, and will remain on view until 3 June 2018.

Irma Álvarez-Laviada (Gijón, 1978), Elena Bajo (Madrid, 1976), Josu Bilbao (Bermeo, Vizcaya, 1978), Felipe Dulzaides (Havana, Cuba, 1965), Rafa Munárriz (Tudela, Navarra, 1990), Alex Reynolds (Bilbao, 1978), Leonor Serrano Rivas (Málaga, 1986) and Pep Vidal (Tarrasa, 1980) are the artists whose works are on display at Centro Botín.

Once the residency is over, Fundación Botín continues to support the artists and follows their work closely and, in many cases, it acquires their works for Fundación Botín’s art collection.

All artists interesting in taking part should apply using the application form on Fundación Botín’s webpage (www.fundacionbotin.org) and then forward the rest of the required documentation by post, before 4 May (included). All applications will be studied by an external jury of artists, curators and experts. The jury, which is renewed annually, advises Fundación Botín on achieving the goals of this call. The jury’s decision will be announced on the foundation’s webpage from 9 July.
